Jerry Walzcak – Artist of the month

Jerry Walczak

May Artist of the Month

One might think of Jerry Walczak as an artistic explorer on a creative journey. Jerry is originally from the far southside of Chicago but moved to Phoenix in 1994, then relocated to Sun City in 2009.

Jerry began drawing in grade school but he hadn’t really focused his creative energy until 2008, when he began taking oil painting classes with Doris Canavan, a Palo Verde Artists instructor.

Jerry wasn’t content to just paint with oil so he began exploring watercolor classes with Ruth Little, also an instructor for Palo Verde Artists. Painting with watercolor has proven to be a challenge for him, as it is almost a reverse process from painting in oil. Jerry works in his small art room at home but his garage is the place where he displays what he creates. The walls of the garage are covered with a dazzling display of his creations showing a variety of painting styles and subject matter. Jerry says he doesn’t have a favorite artist or influence as he draws from many different styles such as realism, impressionism, graphic design, and abstracts, all depicting various subjects such as landscapes, cityscapes, wildlife, portraits, imaginary birds, and animation characters.

Over the past 10 years, Jerry has won many first, second and third place ribbons at Sun City art shows and has sold many of his paintings that now hang in homes and public spaces from New Hampshire to California and states in between. Jerry is an active member of the Palo Verde Artists and Artists by the Lake art clubs. Jerry’s art is currently on display in the showcase outside the Palo Verde Artists club room on the second level of Sundial Recreation Center, 14801 N 103th Avenue, Sun City. Please stop by and enjoy his artwork. The Gallery inside the club room is open to the public for viewing the work of Jerry and other club members.
