Doris Canavan
My life and love of art started with my birth. I cannot remember when I was not fascinated with creating what I envisioned in my mind. So when I was the age of 19, I made it my goal to become proficient enough in painting to reproduce the image of a person and make it look like them. Along the way, I learned how to paint still life and landscapes, so when I painted my first portrait, I realized my goal.
I have been fortunate to have won many awards and have paintings hanging in private collections. I have had extensive training through workshops and classes from well-known artists, and my painting style is realistic/representational. I am a past president of Iowa Artist. In addition, I have belonged to Associated Artist of Central Iowa, the New York Portrait Club, Carrizo Art School, Scottsdale Artist School, The Palateers in Colorado, Palo Verde Art Club, Artist by the Lake, and Peoria Fine Arts Association.
