BASICS of ALCOHOL INK: FLOW and CONTROL
This will be a four-part series with one workshop each month beginning January 26. We will explore this medium for its brilliant color and techniques to achieving amazing effects. We will create abstracts, florals, landscapes in realistic and atmospheric styles.
We can always find a way to blow our budget getting started in a new medium but what follows are the basic supplies and suggestions for what you will need:
Alcohol Ink: 3 colors, a light, medium and dark. Ranger has tri-packs. I suggest the package called “Nature Walk”. Better, Piñata Exciter pack comes in 9 colors and includes a metallic ink.
Substrate: Any non-porous surface
Cheapest: a 4 x 4 glazed ceramic white tile OR photo paper that has no printing on the back.
Modest: Legion Yupo Paper 5 x 7 74lb. Amazon $6.99
Investment: Kirkland Photopaper 150 sheets 8.5 x 11 at Costco, also smaller at Amazon.
Other: Glass, graphix, Nara, vinyl.
Alcohol: 91% or 99% Isopropyl alcohol. Available at drugstores.
Brushes, small medium and large or water brush pens.
Condiment bottles with nozzle to hold alcohol or small plastic bottle with nozzle.
A small glass jar or two with lids
Rubber gloves (optional for first session)
Work Surface: A plastic table cloth or drop cloth or smooth plastic placemat.
GO SHOPPING WITH COUPONS AT HOBBY LOBBY, JOANN and MICHEALS.
Each month we will share our progress, learn new techniques, and discuss tools for further explorations always with limited budgets in mind as many household items can be used with this medium.
